Mercator

This three-masted ship was designed by the Antarctic explorer Adrien de Gerlache and built in Scotland. The Mercator had only two captains and made 41 voyages. In 1936, he brought back the remains of Father Damien. In 1960, the Mercator entered the port of Antwerp. In 1961, it was converted into a museum ship. Since 1964, the Mercator has been one of the jewels of Ostend.

Centre du Grand-Hornu

Considered one of the most beautiful European sites of 19th century industrial archaeology, the former Grand-Hornu coal mine has been listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site since 2012. Owned by the Province of Hainaut, it now houses two institutions that organize nearly 10 exhibitions per year: the CID, a center for innovation and design, and the MACS, a Museum of Contemporary Arts.
